Resilience and Sustainability for Honey Producers in the Yucatan Peninsula
In partnership with IDB Invest, 400 beekeepers in 17 locations in Yucatan were supported to help them recover from extreme weather events, improve productivity and develop climate resilience.
This technical assistance developed an investment plan in climate resilience that allows for productive and resilient business models, thanks to the 4 components of the “complete package”:
-
Delivery of basic supplies for food, pest control and equipment.
-
General training on sustainable hive management practices
-
New bees with improved genetics
-
Training focused on breeding queen bees
Beekeepers who received the “complete package” increased the number of hives in their colonies by 24%, honey production by 33% and most importantly, yields by 11%.
